New Penshaw Academy

New Penshaw Well Being

At New Penshaw Academy we aim to promote positive mental health and well-being for the whole school community.  We recognise that mental health and well-being is very important in our everyday lives and aim to support children, staff, parents and carers to have good mental health as well as good physical health.

We have been working on emotional well-being in school, in line with the national agenda to promote positive mental health and we are gathering evidence for the Bronze Mental Health Charter Mark which will celebrate all we are doing in school.

So far this year, we have introduced Mindful Monsters into our afternoon breaks so that we learn to take time out of our busy school day to reflect and be calm.  We have celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week with a whole school theme of ‘Find your Brave’ and created a display to show our work.  Our school council has also been very busy implementing two new initiatives, ‘Bucket fillers’ and ‘Worry Bags’ which have helped us to make sure that children in New Penshaw are aware of how to spread positivity, give praise to each other, recognise kindness and also that we know how to share our concerns and worries so that they don’t affect our well-being.
